Chinnaponnu is a folk and playback singer, who mainly works in Tamil Film Industry from Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu, India. Since childhood, she used to perform at several temple festivals and churches.
After some time, she started to sing in the group of Artist Kottaisamy as a professional singer and She used to say him as her mentor. During this time, she was noticed by K.A. Gunasekaran, a leading researcher on the folk arts and folk songs of Tamil Nadu and also a member of the Communist party.
In 2004, she started her career in Tamil Film Industry with the ‘Vazthran Vazthran’ song from ‘Chandramukhi’ movie. She has sung over 30 songs in Tamil, and Telugu languages.
In 2010, she was also one of the artists featured in the theme song for the World Classical Tamil Conference 2010, composed by A. R. Rahman, with a video directed by Gautham Menon.
In the following year, she also appeared on MTV Coke Studio television series along with singer Kailash Kher and Papon in the episodes ‘Vethalai’ and ‘Tere Naam’.
