Deepak Punia Biography:
Deepak Punia is an Indian wrestler and He was born on Wednesday, May 19, 1999, in Chhara, Jhajjar, Haryana, India. His grandfather and father Subhash Punia (milkman) were professional wrestlers and competed in various local tournaments.
While growing up, he had watched local mud wrestling competitions. Later, he participated in local wrestling to earn money and support his father financially. During this time, Virendra Singh spotted Deepak’s wrestling talent and urged him to join the Chhatrasal Arena to further growth in his career.
In 2015, He moved to Delhi and enrolled in Chhatrasal Arena. He then started training under the coaches (Virender Kumar, Satpal Singh) at the academy. Deepak then competed and won medals at state, junior and senior nationals competitions.
In 2016, he won his 1st international medal by winning Gold in the men’s freestyle 86 kg category at the World Cadet Championship 2016 held at Tbilisi in Georgia. Two years later, he won the gold medal at the Asian Junior Championship 2018 held in New Delhi.

In the following year, He won the Bronze medal in the 86kg category at the 2020 Asian Championships. A year later, He won the Silver medal at the 2021 Asian Champions held at Almaty.
In 2021, He made his debut in the summer games at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics in the men’s 86 kg category and lost the match to M.N. Amine(San Marino) in winning a bronze medal.
