Nethra Kumanan Biography:
Nethra Kumanan is an Indian Sailor and She was born on Thursday, August 21, 1997, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. She is also a Bharatnatyam dancer. His father VC Kumanan is an IT professional and runs his own It company.
In 2009, at the age of 12, she joined the summer camp organized by Tamil Nadu Sailing Association (TNSA). Before pursuing her interest in sailing, she had explored other sports including tennis, basketball, and cycling.
In 2014, she won her first international medal by winning Bronze in Laser Radial at the India International Regatta. She next bagged the Bronze medal in Laser Radial at the ASAF Youth Sailing Cup Finals in Jakarta in 2015.
In 2020, she won the Bronze medal at the Hempel World Cup Series in Miami, USA. In the same year, she won the silver medal at Mussanah Open Championship in Oman in Laser Radial and qualified for his debut Olympics in sailing at the Tokyo Olympics.
She created history by becoming the first woman sailor to qualify for Olympics (Tokyo Olympics 2021).
